A Duluth man will spend eight years behind bars in connection with a shooting in Hermantown back in August.

21-year-old Benny Ray Urrutia Junior was sentenced to eight years in prison on January 4th after being convicted of first degree assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The criminal complaint states Urrutia shot a woman in the Econo Lodge parking lot.

The complaint goes on to say, she will likely have permanent damage to her internal organs.

Urrutia was later arrested in the Harbor Highlands neighborhood, in Duluth after crashing his S-U-V with the victim inside and leading officers on a short foot chase.

Police say Urrutia implied the two were in some sort of relationship.
