Roads to start closing at 4 p.m. for Christmas City of the North Parade

DULUTH, MN — Duluth Polce will begin closing off streets and roads at 4 p.m. on Friday as floats start to line up for the Christmas City of the North Parade.

Floats will begin lining up at 4 p.m. along London Road between 10th and 14th avenues East, and buses will be set up on the upper side of London Road from 14th to 17th Avenues East.

The parade will follow the route along Superior Street, starting at 9th Avenue East.

London Road will closed to traffic from 10th and 14th Avenues East for parade line-up, and sections of 12th and 13th Avenues East, as well as the 1300 block of Jefferson Street, will also close for parade line-up.

Superior Street from 12th Avenue East to 5th Avenue West will close to traffic at 5:45 p.m., and Michigan Street will close at 6:15 p.m. to traffic except for buses and local residents.

Access to Michigan Street parking ramps will be allowed, but may be limited, after 6:15 p.m.

Anyone leaving Michigan Street lots and ramps during the closures will be directed to exit the area by driving south to the 5th Avenue West off-ramp.

No parking will be allowed after 3 p.m. at the following areas:

  • Both sides of London Road from 10th Ave. East to 14th Ave. E.
  • The upper side of London Road from 14th Ave. E. to 17th Ave. E.
  • 12th and 13th Avenues E. from London Road to Superior Street
  • Jefferson Street from 13th Ave. E. to 14th Ave. E.
  • The Rose Garden Parking Lot

Parking won’t be allowed after 4 p.m. on Michigan Street from 5th Ave. W. to 4th Ave. W., and no parking will be allowed after 5 p.m. on Superior St. from 10th Ave. E to 5th Ave. W.

Jefferson Line buses will be allowed to access the Duluth Transportation Center on Michigan Street to load and unload passengers.

DTA buses will use 1st St. for westbound routes and 2nd St. for eastbound routes.

Lake Avenue will close between 1st St. and the I-35 ramps on the Lake Avenue viaduct.

All I-35 ramps at Lake Ave. will remain open during the parade, but will only be accessible from the Canal Park side.

Anyone wanting to use Canal Park, Park Point, and the DECC will need to use southbound 5th Avenue W. to Railroad Street.

If you need to access St. Luke’s Hospital, anyone coming from the east will need to take First St. directly to the St. Luke’s Hospital Emergency Department entrance on the upper side of 1st St. between 10th and 9th Avenues East.

If you are coming from the west, you’ll need to take Second Street East to 10th Avenue E., head down 1st Street, and then turn right onto 1st Street.

The St. Luke’s Hospital parking areas are available along the street and in the parking ramp on the lower side of 1st Street between 10th and 12th Avenues East.
