Christmas City Express begins operating Friday evening

DULUTH, MN — The Depot is getting into the season with some holiday cheer heading down the tracks.

It’s time once again for the Christmas City Express along the North Shore Scenic Railroad.

The experience begins with a story of a young girl traveling to Duluth to visit her grandparents on Christmas Eve.

After the story is performed at the Depot, people can board the train that travels past Bentleyville and along Lake Superior.

There’s plenty of holiday themed experiences, including the chance to visit Santa Claus.

Those running the event say this is a way the city can provide a magical Christmas experience for the whole family.

“Christmas is a very important time on the North Shore Scenic Railroad. We take the opportunity to relive those memories. There is a nostalgia about the train, and about travel, and about being home for the holidays. And that certainly is what the Christmas Express story is all about,” says North Shore Scenic Railroad executive Ken Buehler.

The Northern Lights Express is offering shuttle service to Bentleyville from Fitger’s as well.
