DULUTH, MN– Duluth is one big step closer to welcoming its first catholic high school in decades.
Stella Maris Academy officially bought the former Hills Youth and Family Services Center and 140 acres of land Wednesday.
The Hills Youth and Family Services provided residential treatment to youth from around the region.
The total amount of the purchase was $4 million which all came from donors within the community.
Stella Maris leaders say this means they can open their high school next fall something they’ve been looking forward to for a long time.
No word on what exact plans they have for the space.
Stella Maris Academy currently operates several elementary schools and a middle school in Duluth.
They hope this move will allow students to continue to receive a catholic-based education through high school.
The Hills which offered services to kids and teens in need or in the criminal justice system shut down earlier this year.
Leaders say they faced major financial struggles throughout the pandemic.
