DULUTH, MN -- After Duluth schools canceled this year's proms due to the pandemic, a group of parents and students came together to give kids a special night anyway.
They put on a sort of grassroots prom at the Buffalo House in Duluth Tuesday. More than 170 students signed up to attend.
One of the organizers told KBJR6 they were happy to host a prom for the kids after a very tough year.
"This group of seniors has missed out on so much this year and they're such a great group of kids. They've been so resilient with everything that's been thrown at them, so just the idea that we could save this one event for them is special," said Marla Halvorson, a Denfeld parent and organizer of the event.
The organizers included covid precautions at the event.
Masks weren't required but they hoped unvaccinated students would choose to wear one.
