Police: Boy dies after falling in Iron Range mine pit

7:26 P.M. UPDATE: Virginia Police have confirmed a 5-year-old boy died after he fell 70 feet from the side of a mine pit in Virginia Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities responded to the Rouchleau mine pit in Virginia around 4:15 p.m.

Authorities have not identified the boy or said what led up to his fall. Police say it appears to have been an accident.

Early reports indicated at least two people fell from the side of the pit. Authorities have not updated the condition of the possible second person.

Authorities plan to share more information after the investigation is complete.
