Student arrested after ammunition found in Duluth East locker, lockdown lifted

DULUTH, MN -- A student was arrested after school officials say ammunition was found in a locker at Duluth East High School Tuesday morning.

According to school district officials, police responded to the school around 11:30 a.m.

The school went into lockdown while the student was arrested.

The lockdown has been lifted as of 12:50 p.m.

"The school and students are safe," district leaders said in a press release. "The safety of our students and staff is our top priority."

School leaders did not identify the student involved.

Authorities did not find a weapon, but the ammunition was turned over to authorities.

Police say they do not believe there is a threat to student safety.

No one was hurt.

DULUTH, MN -- Amid a large police presence outside Duluth East High School Tuesday afternoon, Duluth Police spokespeople say they do not believe there is a threat to student safety.

According to our KBJR 6 crew on scene, about a half dozen squad cars were outside the building as of 12 p.m.

There was no immediate word on what police were responding to.
