DULUTH, MN. -- Fresh off their best finish in the WCHA in a decade, the UMD women's hockey team was well represented Wednesday afternoon, as four players claimed WHCA first or second team honors.
Defense wins championships. And the UMD women's hockey team has another shot at a championship this weekend in the WCHA Final Face-off thanks to their steller defensive play.
"Every pair, every player that steps on the ice knows what is expected of them. The game plan is well laid out, they understand expectations in how we want to play, how we want to look like," said head coach Maura Crowell.
And two players on the back-end were named to the WCHA first team on Wednesday in Ashton Bell and Emma Soderberg.
"She's been playing awesome and her game on Saturday was insane and we are very lucky to have her back there with us and she's always like talking with us and communicating with us which is very helpful for us," said Bell.
But you can't win games without putting the puck in the net, as forwards Gabbie Hughes and Anna Klein were named to the WCHA Second Team Wednesday.
"Gabbie and Klein on the second team, they are surrounded by great names, great players, and they have earned that respect so it's awesome to see and hopefully it gives them a boost of confidence as we head into some really important games ahead," said Crowell.
Some really important games ahead, with hopes to get back to the NCAA tournament.
