WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. -- The Superior boys hockey team fell short in the Division 2 title game Saturday morning, falling to defending champion St. Mary's Springs, 4-1.

Andrew Rude scored the lone goal for the Spartans midway through the third. Jamin Durfee finished with 36 saves.

"I love each and every one of my teammates. This group is my favorite one to play with. I'm going to remember them forever," said Spartan forward Ethan Welch.

"I look back on this season, and we got better every single game. We started late, just like the Minnesota schools are doing right now and we got better and that's the most impressive thing I felt this team was improving day in and day out," said Spartan head coach Jason Kalin.

Superior finishes the season 8-6. This was the first trip to state for the Spartans since 2015, and 38th all time appearance.
