DULUTH, MN -- A Duluth couple married for 70 years had a surprise reunion while getting their COVID-19 vaccinations Thursday.
Two weeks ago, Arlene Olson fell and fractured her hip, forcing her to move out of their home and relocate to Benedictine Living Community.
Pandemic restrictions have prevented Arlene's husband Glenn from visiting and the two have missed each other quite a bit.
“When I’m at home, I’ll turn to tell her something, but then I remember she’s not there,” Glenn said.
But during Glenn's COVID-19 vaccine appointment Thursday, he came across a special surprise: Arlene, who was also there to receive her vaccine.
The couple didn’t realize they were both scheduled for the same vaccine appointment time.
"This was such a pleasant surprise for us, to get to see each other," Glenn said.
Hospital leaders say they weren't surprised that the couple was more than happy to stay for the observation period after their shots.
