MINNESOTA-- Help is on the way for rural Minnesota hospitals on the frontlines of the pandemic.
A new bipartisan bill in the U.S Senate will make smaller hospitals eligible for programs like paycheck protection, which were previously only available to larger health centers.
The "PPP Access for Rural Hospitals Act" was introduced by U.S. Senators Tina Smith and Roger Wicker.
Smith says the pandemic has taken a toll on smaller hospitals that weren't eligible for assistance and keeping those hospitals afloat is critical for the communities they serve.
Smith also said vaccination efforts are continuing to improve as a national strategy develops and residents in rural communities are a top priority.
