UMD hockey to allow limited attendees at games

DULUTH, MN -- A limited number of people will soon be able to attend University of Minnesota-Duluth hockey games in person for the first time since March 2020.

According to DECC leaders, the team's invited guests, defined as student-athletes' family and friends, can start attending games at Amsoil Arena on Friday, January 15.

DECC officials say they hope to be able to safely allow more spectators over the coming weeks and months.

Safety precuations will include mask wearing, social/physical distancing, routine sanitization and cleaning as well as other MDH/CDC best practices.

“We are thrilled to be inviting spectators back into Amsoil Arena," Roger Reinert, Interim Executive Director of the DECC, said. "DECC staff has conducted a multitude of events over the past six months, and are fully committed to a safe guest experience."

UMD's Athletics Director Josh Berlo echoed the DECC's excitement.

"UMD Athletics could not be more excited to be taking a small, but important, first step in welcoming back Bulldog Country to Amsoil Arena and Romano Gymnasium. We appreciate everyone's patience, flexibility and compliance with the required safety guidelines. I personally look forward to cheering along with you very soon. As always, GO BULLDOGS!" Berlo said.

The UMD women's hockey team will host Ohio State an Amsoil Arena Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16.

Meanwhile, the UMD men's hockey team's weekend series at Miami-Ohio, originally scheduled for January 15 and 16, was postponed due to COVID-19. The team's next home series is currently set for January 22 and 23 against Western Michigan University.
