Douglas County Public Health vaccinate EMS, healthcare workers

COVID Vaccine

DOUGLAS CO., WI -- Douglas County Public Health is reaching out to local healthcare providers who are eligible to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Healthcare workers from different sectors were vaccinated including dental workers, school nurses, first responders, and home health workers.

The first phase was focused on people who worked directly with COVID-19 patients due to the nature of work and those with a higher risk of death who live in settings similar to nursing homes.

“Nearly all of the available appointments were filled two days after the vaccine was received,” said Kathy Ronchi, Health Officer. “The COVID-19 vaccine rollout seems slow due to the limited supply and enormous demand, but a great deal of work is being done.”

The pharmacy program began vaccinating staff/residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

The County's Public Health expects the remaining eligible healthcare workers will receive their first vaccine next week

Reps from the Wisconsin State Health Department say they are drafting guidelines for the next phase of the vaccine rollout. It's expected to be shared in the coming weeks.
