UWS rapid COVID testing site to remain open through mid-January

SUPERIOR, WI -- The University of Wisconsin-Madison announced Monday they'll keep rapid COVID-19 testing locations, including the Superior site, open longer than originally expected.

According to an email from university leaders, originally, they estimated the sites would operate for about six weeks, or through mid-December.

That date was later extended until at least Christmas. Now, because of added support from the United States Department of Health and Human Services, surge testing will continue until mid-January.

Days and hours vary by individual site. Superior's location is located at the University of Wisconsin-Superior's Markovich Wellness Center.

Results are available within 15 minutes.

The UW System surge testing sites are the first in the country to use the new Abbott BinaxNOW tests.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has provided 250,000 of the tests, and staffing support is available through eTrueNorth.
