UMD outlasts North Dakota in shootout thriller

OMAHA, Neb. -- The UMD men's hockey team earned an extra conference point with a shootout win over North Dakota on Thursday night.

Former Hermantown Hawks Jesse Jacques and Cole Koepke scored regulation goals to force a 2-2 overtime stalemate against the Fighting Hawks.

Despite two minutes of UMD power play time in 3-on-3 overtime, neither side could break through with a game winning goal.

In the third shootout round, Nick Swaney beat UND goaltender Adam Scheel with a top corner wrister. On the other end, Ryan Fanti stonewalled Shane Pinto to seal the extra point win for UMD.
