MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Minnesota versus Wisconsin football game scheduled for Saturday, November 28 has officially been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns.
The Gophers announced that they will be pausing all football activity due to positive COVID-19 cases within their program.
Nine student-athletes and six staff members have tested positive for the virus in the last five days. Minnesota is also awaiting another round of testing results for additional presumptive positive tests.
The game will be ruled a no contest, and will not be rescheduled. It's the second time in 130 years that the battle for Paul Bunyan's Axe will not be played.
Wisconsin has already missed two games this season due to a COVID-19 outbreak, and with this cancelation, will no longer be eligible to play in the Big Ten Championship game.
