Man charged in Iron Range shooting

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN -- The man who Eveleth police say shot another man in the head this week is facing multiple felony charges.

Jamar Smith, 29, is facing two charges of felony assault, and one charge for being a felon possessing a firearm in addition to drug charges.

The shooting happened shortly after ten Monday morning.

Court documents show Smith got into an argument with a man and a woman while they were parked outside a restaurant.

Authorities say that's when Smith shot the man before driving off.

Police eventually found Smith and arrested him after a chase.

Authorities haven't said what led up to the shooting, but police say Smith was apparently dating the woman who was in the vehicle with the victim.

Smith will be back in court next month.

The victim was taken to a hospital. No word on his condition.
