Retired St. Louis Co. K9 Kilo passes away unexpectedly

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MN-- A retired St. Louis County K9 has passed away.

K9 Kilo died last Wednesday.

The 10-and-a-half-year-old had a history of health problems, but his death was unexpected.

Kilo's handler, Sgt. Brandon Silgjord, says he was able to talk Kilo through his last moments while he laid in his favorite spot.

Before retiring, Kilo served with the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office for
eight years.

Silgjord says Kilo had a gift for working through tough conditions and for forming bonds with the community.

As of right now, there are no plans for a public funeral, but Kilo will be remembered during a private ceremony with close family and friends.
