DULUTH, Minn. -- The Duluth East girls tennis team is back on top of their section, with a 4-3 win over Elk River on Tuesday night.

The Greyhouds dominated singles play, winning three of the four matches at Longview Tennis Courts. Aili Hietala (6-0, 6-1), Cursta Dimberio (7-5, 6-4), and Natalie Goetzman (7-6, 6-3) all won in straight sets.

Esla Pepelnjak and Ella Johnson added another win for Duluth East in no. three singles (2-6, 7-5, 6-1) to put the Greyhounds over the top.

Due to MSHSL restrictions, there will not be a state tennis tournament this fall. However, the Greyhounds would have qualified had state competition been approved.
