1 injured in crash while fleeing Virginia Police

VIRGINA, MN -- A 19-year-old Eveleth man suffered non-life threatening injuries when he crashed into a median while allegedly fleeing from Virginia police.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, the Minnesota State Patrol reports a Ford Focus fled from Virgina police going southbound on Highway 53.

The vehicle then struck a median barrier near Highway 135.

The Virgina Police Department and fire deartment, and St. Louis County Sherrifs office responded to the accident.

As of right now, authorities say it is not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

He was transported to a Duluth hospital for treatment.

The crash is still under investigation.
