WASHBURN, Wis. -- The Washburn School District will officially be postponing their fall sports season to the WIAA's alternate spring season.

The move comes following an order from the Bayfield County Public Health Department, prohibiting "interscholastic competition" due to increased transmission of COVID-19 in the region.

Washburn Athletic Director Duane Gasperini confirmed the move to KBJR 6, citing the recent order in Bayfield County. The Castle Guards were planning to open their football season on Friday, October 2nd, in their first recent season as an independent team.

They join Superior and Eau Claire as other schools to utilize the WIAA's Alternate Schedule format.
