STEVENS POINT, Wis. -- The WIAA Board of Control has approved a plan to adjust their 2020-21 high school athletics calendar due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first of six presented timelines at the Board of Control meeting was approved by a unanimous 11-0 vote.

Previously deemed "high-risk activities" including football, volleyball, and soccer will be given the option to conduct a fall or spring season.

Fall practice for football, volleyball, and soccer will be permitted to begin on September 7, with competition beginning on September 21.

Individual school districts will have the option to participate in either the fall or spring season, but must notify the WIAA before September 1 to accomodate for scheduling.

As a result, the traditional spring and winter seasons will be slightly reduced. See calendar:

Student-athletes will also have the option to participate in multiple sports at once, if local officials allow.
