HERMANTOWN, MN-- The Voyageur Area Boy Scouts and organizations came together Saturday afternoon to build bat houses.

The boy scouts, Minnesota power and Sustainable Forestry Initiative built the houses as part of a key building block for the Voyageur Scouts program.

Volunteers will then gather the bat houses and place them around Northern Minnesota.

"We're helping scouts understand that bats are not something to be afraid of or something that's not scary," said Michael Jenkins, executive director for Voyageur Scouts. "Their learning that bats are very very important to our environment."

Every year the youth in Scouting provide 1,000’s of hours of community service from picking up the trash along the roads and trails and many other community projects.
