MT. IRON, MN -- A Mountain Iron city councilor and candidate for a Minnesota House of Representatives seat says she was forced to apologize over a controversial social media post.
Julie Buria is the republican-endorsed candidate for the House 6B seat, which represents the Cotton, Eveleth, and Virginia areas at the Minnesota Capitol.
According to the Mesabi Tribune, on her personal Facebook page, Buria recently shared a graphic Holocaust image and compared it to the state’s response to the pandemic.
A few days later, Minnesota GOP party leaders said Buria regretted the post and apologized.
But during a Mountain Iron City Council meeting Tuesday night, Buria claimed she was forced to apologize and said she did nothing wrong.
DFL Representative Dave Lislegard currently holds the 6B seat.
The democrat told the Mesabi Tribune the situation is unfortunate and reflects badly on the region.
Lislegard is seeking re-election.
