MADISON, WI -- Hand sanitizers are becoming more and more popular as COVID-19 remains a concern. With that, there is an increase in calls to poison centers of possible toxic alcohol exposures.
Experts are saying hand sanitizers being produced either at home or in other countries, they can contain a variety of chemicals and alcohols that can be dangerous and deadly.
According to the Wisconsin Poison Center, there has been a dramatic increase in hand sanitizer products that contain ethanol (also known as ethyl alcohol) and have actually tested positive for methanol contamination.
