Duluth Police officer sideswiped during traffic stop

The driver of the red SUV struck Officer Nick Hudson as he was getting out of his squad car.

DULUTH, MN -- Mere inches could have been the difference between injury and tragedy for a police officer during a traffic stop in Duluth on Wednesday.

While getting out of his squad car on East 4th Street, Duluth Police Officer Nick Hudson was sideswiped by an SUV. The incident was caught on camera.

Another squad nearby stopped the driver moments after.

It turns out the driver was allegedly under the influence and arrested for Criminal Vehicular Operation, DWI and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Police say Hudson was not seriously hurt.

"Our best wishes to Nick for a full and speedy recovery," Chief Mike Tusken wrote in a Facebook post.
