DULUTH, MN -- A Duluth non-profit is asking for help as it struggles to collect backpacks and school supplies for students in need.
Scott Van Daele, CHUM's Distributive Services Director, said they're about 1,000 backpacks short of their 1,400 backpack goal.
Eventually, CHUM will fill those backpacks with school supplies and distribute them to kids in Duluth.
Van Daele said students need our help now more than ever before.
"CHUM has done this for a really long time, providing youth of our area and around the Twin Ports,' Van Daele said. "We have people come as far as Cloquet and Virginia. It's just really important regardless if they're in school or if they're at home to have the tools that they need to learn and do their job."
Because of the pandemic, Van Daele said CHUM can't accept any supplies or backpacks donated in person.
Instead, they're asking people to either make a donation online or order backpacks and supplies on CHUM's website.
The deadline to order is August 9. Distributions are scheduled for August 25 and 26, with more specific details to come.
