DULUTH, MN-- AFSCME Council 5 and Council 65 are both endorsing Quinn Nystrom for election in Minnesota’s Eighth Congressional District.
AFSCME Council 5 is a union of 43,000 public and non-profit workers and AFSCME Council 65 represents 14,000 workers in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
Both unions released in a statement early Tuesday their reasons for this endorsement.
“AFSCME Council 5 is thrilled to endorse Quinn Nystrom, who will fight side by side with us to make sure all workers have the freedom to organize, collectively bargain, and stand up for our rights,” says Julie Bleyhl, Council 5’s executive director. “Quinn will fight to stop the assault on workers and do everything she can to provide people with the freedom and opportunity to raise the standards of living for all workers. Our members conducted screenings with several candidates in this race and her work speaks for itself.
“AFSCME Council 65 is proud to endorse Quinn, who is running to build an even better Minnesota for all of us,” says Shannon Douvier, Council 65’s interim executive director. “She’ll fight for our freedom as workers to organize, collectively bargain, and stand up so we can improve life for ourselves, our families, and our communities across Minnesota. The voices of public service workers will be truly represented when Quinn Nystrom is elected to Congress. The people of the 'Fighting Eighth' demand champions like her to fight for our shared values.”
