DULUTH, MN-- In recent years, hockey legend Mark Sertich would spend his birthday on the ice. But with the ongoing pandemic, friends of the now 99 year old were forced to switch things up.
On Saturday, family and friends surprised Sertich just outside his house with a parade.
Cars were decorated to wish the Guiness World Record holder well.
Sertich was even gifted a hockey stick with his new age on the end.
He says the parade was a nice gesture and it even brought the youth out of him.
"Well that's the way you have to look at it. But what I'm going to do now is turn those upside down. I like that number, 66 better than 99," said Sertich.
With 100 on the horizon, Sertich has maintained his goal of playing at that age. He says he's going to do everything he can to make that happen.
"I had that goal here a few years ago and I'm still hanging on. But you know it's getting tougher, kind of slide down more and more but I'm going to be there till the end, you bet," added Sertich.
