DULUTH, MN -- The Duluth School Board is set to vote on whether or not to approve a new contract with school resource officers.
This comes as a city-wide petition started by the students requesting the removal of the resource officers.
Tuesday night, the School Board heard from Duluth Police Sergeant Mike LaFontaine as they weighed their options.
LaFontaine said the relationship between SRO's and those inside the schools is critical and develop over time.
"Having an SRO in the school provides a resource or somebody that the students or staff can go to seek answers and provide feedback so there's a continuity there," said LaFontaine.
The Duluth School Board is expected to vote on July 21, with the possibility that it could be pushed back.
