SUPERIOR, WI -- Nummi Jewelers and the Superior Douglas County YMCA partnered for their "Neighbors helping Neighbors" event.

The event collected donations for the Twin Cities after the protests and riots following George Floyd's death left the cities in need.

Community members could drop off donations at either Nummi Jewelers or the YMCA.

"We already know we have an amazing community here in Superior and Duluth, and everyone really stepped up," said Katie Perrault, manager of Nummi Jewelers. "And they brought us an amazing array of items that we get to donate."

Jess Melander of the YMCA said at least $1000 worth of items were donated.

"A lot of us felt really frustrated and angry and sad and don't really know what we can do," Melander said. "So small actions like this help us to be able to make that move, that first step."

All of the donations will be brought to the YMCA in the Twin Cities later this week.
