Criminal investigation underway into Hibbing elementary school teacher

HIBBING, MN -- A criminal investigation is underway into a Hibbing elementary school teacher, according to Hibbing Police.

Police Chief Steven Estey confirmed his department is actively investigating a complaint against the teacher, but said no one has been arrested as of Thursday afternoon.

Hibbing School District Superintendent Richard Aldrich said the school district is also investigating the allegation.

"Immediately upon learning of this information, the School District reported to the appropriate authorities and took other appropriate action. The District will be investigating this matter further and taking action as warranted," Aldrich wrote.

According to the Hibbing School District website, the teacher, named by the district, instructs 6th grade at Lincoln Elementary School. KBJR 6 is withholding the teacher's name until charges are formally filed.

Both Hibbing police and school district officials declined to comment further.
