VIRGINIA, MN -- Two long-time Iron Range newspapers are merging into a one six-day newspaper starting July 8.
The Mesabi Daily News and Hibbing Daily Tribune, owned by Adams Publishing Group, will become the the Mesabi Tribune.
The announcement, made Wednesday, comes as the newspaper industry continues to face revenue declines.
"Our newsroom staffs have closely collaborated for several months now, and under the Mesabi Tribune flag, we can place more reporters and photographers in the field to bolster our coverage of news, sports, features and more across northeastern Minnesota," Jerry Burnes, the editor of the paper, wrote.
The Duluth News Tribune announced earlier this year it will go from a seven day a week paper to two days per week also starting July 8.
