Ashland Police Chief to step down

ASHLAND, WI -- Ashland's police chief is stepping down.

According to the Ashland Daily Press, Chief Jim Gregoire told the city he will retire July 3, ending his 25-year career as a police officer.

He told the newspaper that the last four years have been "trying."

Gregoire told the Ashland Daily Press a federal lawsuit filed against the City of Ashland alleging police misconduct had nothing to do with his decision to retire.

Gregoire said he was unable to discuss the specifics of the lawsuit.

The city plans to start the search process for the next police chief at the end of the month.
