Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival canceled due to COVID-19

SUPERIOR, WI -- Another major summer event, which also serves as a fundraiser for local non-profits, has been canceled due to COVID-19.

Organizers announced the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival will not take place this year.

The 19th annual festival was supposed to take place August 21-22, 2020 on Barkers Island in Superior.

Organizers say uncertainty surrounding what COVID-19 regulations and restrictions will look like come August, they wanted to take precautions early.

“Each dragon boat contains 20 people in very close proximity to each other,” Co-Chair of the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival Patricia Finney said.

This year, the race was slated to raise money for local nonprofit 23rd Veteran.

The 20th annual festival will take place August 27-28, 2021.

More information on the 2021 event will be posted on the festival's website once the event draws near.
