BAYFIELD, WI -- Over the Memorial Day weekend in Wisconsin, the Red Cliff Band donated 2,180 pounds of fish to the Bayfield community.

It was all part of their 'Community Fish Project' aiming to feed the Red Cliff Band members and Madeline Island communities.

In the past three weeks, the Band has been purchasing fish from four Red Cliff tribal fishing boats, with the intent of distributing it throughout the area, according to the Band's newsletter.

Tribal leaders say they hope these efforts will help community members during the pandemic.

Parts of the harvest were also donated through the Red Cliff Community Health Center's outreach.

Over 300 pounds of whitefish were donated to the Bayfield Food Shelf and the Madeline Island Food Shelf.

The Red Cliff Casino also donated the ice to keep the fish fresh.
