Lake County News Chronicle to stop publication citing COVID-19 financial struggles

LAKE CO., MN-- The Lake County News Chronicle is halting publications due to the "economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic", according to its website.

The Chronicle has seen financial struggles for many years due to fewer subscribers and fewer ads being purchased, the paper said.

"It really is a financial decision," Publisher Neal Ronquist said. "We would love to be able to continue to cover that community to the extent that we've been covering it in the past, but financially it just doesn't make any sense any longer."

Current subscribers will be able to transition their subscription to the Duluth News Tribune at a discounted rate. Both newspapers are part of the Duluth Media Group.

More details will be sent to subscribers next week regarding transferring subscriptions and refunds, according to the website.

The last publication will be on May 22.
