Chance of rain Friday afternoon.

Fire danger now up to moderate levels for areas east of Grand Rapids and I. Falls.

Skies are clear tonight and temperatures are on the mild side too. Lows can be expected in the upper 30s to mid 40s! A nice big ridge of high pressure sits over the region keeping us clear and our winds rather calm with a southwest flow at 4-8mph.

Friday's Forecast

Clouds increase in the early morning hours Friday. Skies are overcast throughout the day as a ridge in the jet stream pushes east allowing for a shortwave to make its way in bringing a 60% chance of rain by the afternoon/evening. Around 0.1” to 0.3” can be expected with this system. High temperatures are in the upper 50s to low 60s. Ironwood and Mercer see mid 60s as it will take longer for the rain to reach the eastern sections of the Northland. Winds are out of the south at 5-15mph.

A strong west wind brings in some warm air and sunshine for Saturday. The shortwave pushes east and the jet stream stays north allowing for the warm air to stick around the region. Winds are out of the west at 15-20mph with gusts up to 30mph.

A cold front pushes into the region from the north on Sunday. This cools us off a bit. Morning lows are in the mid 40s and highs reach the upper 50s. Expect mostly sunny skies.

The east wind picks up on Monday. This cools us off big time. Lows are in the low 30s and highs reach the mid 40s on the hill with low 40s to upper 30s lakeside. Expect mostly cloudy skies as a low pressure system approaches from the southwest.

There’s a 20% chance of showers on Tuesday because the low pressure system nearing. But it’s just not quite close enough to warrant a good chance of rain as a high pressure system north of Lake Superior is trying to keep the rain at bay. We’ve got mostly cloudy to partly cloudy skies with lows in the low 30s and highs in the mid 40s again.
