PORTAGE, WI-- The Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) has received confirmation that a second employee has tested positive for COVID-19.
The first positive case was an employee at Waupun Correctional Institution
(WCI) confirmed on March 18.
The second positive case is an employee at Columbia Correctional Institution (CCI) confirmed on Saturday.
These institutions are maximum-security facilities that have now suspended administrative rules to limit the traffic in the building for the safety of the staff and adults in care.
Both employees were directed to quarantine per CDC guidelines.
According to officials, in the last weeks, DOC has taken several steps to minimize the risk of potential spread to staff and persons under their care.
Any staff members that report symptoms are directed to quarantine for 14 days.
The staff at DOC say they will continue to monitor this situation and act in accordance with the guidelines.
