DULUTH, MN-- The Census Bureau announced Wednesday it has established an internal task force to help monitor COVID-19.
In addition, Census Bureau officials say the task force will also work on updating the Census Bureau Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) to include relevant coronavirus language.
Officials say contingency planning is based on two principles; the health and safety of staff, and fulfilling the "constitutional obligation" to deliver the Census counts on schedule.
The Census Bureau did not immediately return interview requests about the contingency plan.
Officials want to remind the public they can complete the Census without having to meet a Census taker. This can be done online, over the phone, or by mail.
Census officials began reaching out to residents Thursday by sending postcards with detailed information on how to respond to the Census.
