High water levels cause delay start to shipping season

INTERNATIONAL -- High water levels are causing a delay to the start of the shipping season on the St. Lawrence Seaway.

Officials made the announcement Wednesday saying commercial shipping for the Montreal - Lake Ontario section of the seaway will now begin April 1st, 2020 instead of the anticipated start date of March 20th, 2020.

Industry experts worry the delay could interrupt the supply chain, prompting issues for industries like mining, manufacturing, and farming.

As of now, officials say the delay isn't expected to have an impact on the Duluth-Superior Port.
