Northland residents experience early taste of spring over the weekend

DULUTH, MN-- The Northland got an early taste of spring over the weekend.

A large and strong area of high pressure was responsible for not only the warm temperatures over the weekend but also some bitterly cold temperatures just a few days prior.

Here were some of the top temperatures reported on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Cass Lake DNR Station: 54 degrees
  • Orr: 54 degrees
  • Littlefork: 53 degrees
  • Effie: 52 degrees
  • Hill City: 52 degrees
  • Isabella: 52 degrees
  • 6 Miles SE of Pine River: 51 degrees
  • Walker: 51 degrees
  • Grand Rapids: 51 degrees
  • Barnes: 50 degrees
  • Glidden: 50 degrees
  • Crane Lake: 50 degrees
  • Hibbing: 49 degrees
  • Poplar: 48 degrees
  • La Pointe: 47 degrees
  • Siren: 47 degrees
  • Ely: 46 degrees
  • Solon Springs: 45 degrees
  • Hayward: 42 degrees
  • Duluth Airport: 42 degrees

Sunday wasn't quite as warm for the northern Minnesota region, but residents in northern Wisconsin did see some warmer temperatures. Here are some of the top temperatures from Sunday:

  • Downtown Grand Marais: 48 degrees
  • Ashland: 47 degrees
  • Hayward: 47 degrees
  • Phillips: 47 degrees
  • Superior: 46 degrees
  • Solon Springs: 46 degrees
  • Siren: 45 degrees
  • Hinckley: 45 degrees
  • Cloquet: 45 degrees
  • Duluth Airport: 43 degrees
  • Aitkin: 43 degrees
  • Grand Marais Airport: 43 degrees
  • Hibbing: 40 degrees
  • Ely: 39 degrees
  • Crane Lake: 39 degrees
  • I-Falls: 38 degrees

The high temperature of 43 degrees Sunday was the warmest day in Duluth since November 24, when the high reached 47 degrees.

Saturday's high of 49 degrees the warmest day in International Falls since December 22, when the high reached 47 degrees.
