Inaugural Winter Frolic event sees great turnout despite cold temperatures

RICE LAKE, MN -- Sunday was the first-ever Winter Frolic at Rice Lake City Park.

The City of Rice Lake hosted the outdoor event Sunday aternoon, where local vendors provided snacks, hot cocoa and cider.

Around 75 people showed up to hit the sled hill, ski and snowshoe around the park, enjoy the fire pits, and make snow angels and art.

Organizers say this is the first time they've hosted the Winter Frolic, and they expect to host many more events like this.

"It was a real community event. We're trying to get the community involved as a family, doing a lot of family activities. This is the first one, but we're going to try do more events throughout the year," said organizer Cathy Lafave.

Organizers said the Winter Frolic is all about getting the community together, meeting your neighbors, and providing a safe and welcoming environment.
