DULUTH, MN-- The 2020 Kia of Duluth Drag Races and Car Show, which draws hundreds to Garfield Avenue each year, was forced to cancel this September's event due to a major construction project.
According to a Facebook post, the Minnesota Department of Transportation informed the event's organizers this week, citing changes to the Twin Ports Interchange construction project set to start this spring.
Event organizers say they were caught off guard as they were already planning this year's event.
Organizers say they are working with Duluth Police to find an alternate location for 2021.
The race, which celebrated its 12th year in 2019, typically closes off Garfield Avenue for an eighth of a mile allowing cars to race against each other in a series of one-on-one matches.
