One dead in Eveleth house fire

EVELETH, MN -- A 77-year-old woman is dead following a house fire, Eveleth Police said late Tuesday.

The fire broke out around 11 a.m. on the 700 block of North Court in Eveleth.

St. Louis County Dispatch received a call from a female who stated there was a fire and she was unable to get out of the residence. 

Officers arrived a short time later and found the residence engulfed in flames. 

Due to the flames, heavy smoke and extreme heat, officers and emergency personnel were unable to gain access into the residence. 

As of 4:30 p.m., several roads in the area were still blocked off.

Identification of the female is pending an autopsy by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office. 

The incident remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office and Eveleth Police Department.

Authorities have blocked off several nearby streets as they continue to fight the house fire, according to our KBJR 6 reporter on scene.

Our KBJR 6 reporter on scene says fire officials asked them to stay back from the scene as crews continue to work.

Our crew reports as of 12:30 p.m., an ambulance and several fire trucks are on scene.

No word if anyone was in the home at the time of the fire.
