Duluth City Council elects council leadership, talks legislative agenda

DULUTH, MN-- The first Duluth city council meeting of 2020 had some memorable moments.

Three new members, Janet Kennedy, Derek Medved, and Roz Randorf were welcomed to the council.

Monday night, the members elected officers. Committee positions were assigned during the agenda session.

Councilor Gary Anderson was elected President, while Councilor Renee Van Nett was elected Vice President.

The council discussed its legislative priorities.

Councilor Randorf proposed aid for Park Point and other shoreline communities suffering from shoreline erosion.

Many councilors voiced their support for the proposal.

Councilor Joel Sipress said, "I appreciate this amendment to our legislative agenda for starting a conversation about the need for a state program specifically designed to help coastal communities address the impact of climate change."

Ultimately the council tabled the resolution for the legislative agenda.

They hope to refine language within amendments before passing on their proposals to the capital.
