Not one…not two…not three..but 4 touchdowns by Preston Lowe in perhaps one of the biggest games in his career, has Esko back in the state tournament.
Lowe credits his stellar performance to his teammates for putting in the necessary work to get better.
"Defensive wise we stepped it up a lot this year. From the beginning of the year till now, we've came together closer as a group. And our line is putting in a lot of work this year. They just made a lot of holes for me."
Head Coach Scott Arntson says he wasn't suprised by Lowe's performance because that's just the type of player he is.
"He ended up getting some opportunities and that kind of worked out for him, so that's good. Defensively he's done a great job, that was his 9th interception of the year, he had a couple pick sixes. He's been a great special teams player as well so he's a big play player."
But it's not just the games that Lowe gets up for.
"He comes up to every practice and grinds. Anytime you're at practice, he's going to be working hard, not taking a rep off. Those are the kind of leaders that we like. You don't always hear him say anything but he's speaking volumes by how he's working."
With the section title game now in the rear view mirror, the Eskomos face a tough test in the 10-1 Annandale Cardinals.
Lowe says the goal is simple.
"The goal is to win, of course. But we're excited. We have nothing to lose so we're just going to play our hearts out and play to the best of our abilities."
With an emphasis on the basics.
"We have to make sure we hang on to the ball, we keep away from penalties. We're in the correct position, blocking the right people and just do the things that we are capable of doing. We can't turn the ball over and have them have short fields. So we just have to play sound good football."
