ST. PAUL, MN - The Minnesota Court of Appeals has rejected an appeal for a lesser sentence by a former Duluth middle school teacher.
Karla Winterfeld was sentenced in 2018 to 12 years after pleading guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
The 35-year-old admitted to sexually assaulting the then 15-year-old former student.
This week the Court of Appeals found there to be "no abuse of discretion".
Winterfeld's sentence also included the possibility of four years of supervised release.
She's a registered sex offender.
