HERMANTOWN, MN -- A one million dollar donation to the Hermantown School District will help make major improvements to the district's football field.
Centricity Credit Union, which has office locations around the region, made the donation in order to help the field turn from natural grass to artificial turf.
According to Head Football Coach Mike Zagelmeyer, the district is in need of additional funds to complete the project, which will include a locker room facility, a scoreboard, and a press box.
Zagelmeyer says the football team won't be the only sports team to benefit from the upgrade. He says the lacrosse and soccer teams will also benefit, as well as the district's physical education classes.
The field, which is now natural grass, has had draining issues for years.
In addition to the upgrade, the athletic facility will also see a name change. The official name will be Corey Veech Memorial Field at Centricity Stadium, which will last for 15 years.
Zagelmeyer says they hope to have the turf completely installed by August 24th.
