ROTHSCHILD, WI -- Former Congressman Sean Duffy has endorsed Tom Tiffany in the special election for Wisconsin's 7th Congressional District seat.
Duffy, who resigned from the seat earlier this year for family reasons, endorsed Tiffany Thursday morning, and issued the following statement:
"As a dad looking out for my nine kids, I am proud to endorse fellow dad Tom Tiffany for Congress. Growing up on a small farm with his seven brothers and sisters, Tom learned a strong farm work ethic that will serve him well as he goes to work with President Trump and keep America great. Tom has the small business experience and conservative credentials necessary to help him fight in Washington for my family and yours to secure our southern border, protect our precious unborn, and defend our 2nd Amendment. It's is a critical time for America. The number of radicals in Congress keeps growing. Still, Wisconsin families, farmers, and manufacturers can be confident Tom will stand for freedom and liberty and work with the President to stop the creep of socialism. I hope you will all join me in supporting Tom Tiffany at the ballot box on Tuesday, February 18."
Tiffany is a Wisconsin State Senator and has been in the state Legislature since 2011.
He is also a member of the budget-writing committee.
According to Tiffany's campaign team, he also has the support of former Wisconsin governors Scott Walker and Tommy Thompson, as well as state legislators and county sheriffs from the district.
A primary for the special election will be held on February 18, 2020, with the main election to be held on May 12, 2020.
Other candidates running for the seat include the following:
- Lawrence Dale - D
- Spencer Zimmerman- D
- Tricia Zunker - D
- Jason Church - R
- Michael Opela - R
Tiffany issued the following statement after receiving Duffy's endorsement:
"I'm honored to have Congressman Duffy's endorsement. Sean made a difficult choice in putting family first and stepping down to care for his daughter, Valentina. Sean has been a tireless advocate for conservative principles and President Trump's top ally in Congress. I look forward to taking the torch from Sean and continuing to fight for the families of Northern and Western Wisconsin."
